About The Founder

Yuri Chakalall is the President & Principal Director of RASCA: Resilience & Sustainability, Caribbean Advisors. He is a well-recognized, trusted, and seasoned environmental professional with more than 30 years of experience in the Caribbean region and countries across the globe. His combined experience in coastal resources management, environmental planning, disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation and humanitarian assistance, has been gained from field-level implementation to senior-level management, of natural resource management initiatives spanning the public, private, civil society, and international development sectors throughout the Caribbean. He also was the first individual to be hired at a medical NGO to develop and implement a DRR strategy into a well-established health-centric portfolio.

He has served as Disaster Risk Management Specialist with both the InterAmerican and Caribbean Development Banks; an international disaster reduction advisor with International Medical Corps as well as for UNDP in Nepal; a senior Development officer with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). He has also served as Regional Director of Smith Warner International and as a Coastal Planner for the Government of Barbados.

Yuri is a proud national of Barbados, and graduate of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, and a postgraduate of the Marine Resource & Environmental Management Programme at the Centre for Resource Management & Environmental Studies (CERMES), University of the West Indies, Cave Hill, Barbados. He completed his studies in humanitarian assistance, at the Center for International Cooperation in Health, at Fordham University, in New York.
